Muffler Shop & Auto Since 1975

Muffler Shop & Auto has been a family owned and operated company serving the Traverse City and surrounding areas since 1975.  

 Founded by Pete Cataldo in 1975, The Muffler Shop started out as just that, a muffler shop. As time passed, Pete expanded his services to become a full service automotive repair facility. Pete was also on the teaching faculty at NMC for a number of years, where he was training new automotive technicians. He hired one of his students to work at The Muffler Shop, Rich Swinehart. Rich had set a goal for himself to own his own shop someday. Turns out, Pete was looking for the next mechanic who would someday take over The Muffler Shop and continue it with the same dedication and care that Pete, himself, put into it over the years. Pete retired in 2019, with Rich as his successor and The Muffler Shop became the Muffler Shop & Auto.

We have a proud history of excellent work and customers service. We will continue to provide that same level of service and work excellence going into the future. The Muffler Shop & Auto remains family owned and operated by the Swinehart family. As a family, with four school-age children and one college student, it isn't unusual for our customers to meet one or more of the Swinehart kids, who take turns helping out around the shop and occasionally take over one of the waiting rooms to play games or do homework. Our family has been blessed by the opportunity to acquire "The Shop," which has allowed us to be able to give back to our community through donating and volunteering with local community organizations we believe in, which we look forward to doing more of in the future.
