Muffler Shop & Auto has been a family owned automotive repair business serving Traverse City and the surrounding areas since 1975, proudly operating as a full service muffler shop.

Founded by Pete Cataldo in 1975, The Muffler Shop began as a full service muffler shop. Over the years, Pete expanded his offerings to establish a family owned automotive repair facility. For many years, he was also a part of the teaching faculty at NMC, where he trained new automotive technicians. One of his students, Rich Swinehart, who had ambitions to own his own shop, was hired by Pete. As it turned out, Pete was seeking the next mechanic to eventually take over The Muffler Shop and uphold the dedication and care he had invested. In 2019, Pete retired, passing the torch to Rich, and The Muffler Shop transformed into the Muffler Shop & Auto, continuing its legacy of quality Traverse City auto repair.

We have a proud history of excellent work and customer service at our family owned automotive repair shop. Moving forward, we will continue to provide that same level of service and work excellence. The Muffler Shop & Auto, a full service muffler shop, remains family owned and operated by the Swinehart family. As a family with four school-age children and one college student, it's not unusual for our customers to meet one or more of the Swinehart kids, who help out around the shop and occasionally take over one of the waiting rooms to play games or do homework. Our family has been blessed with the opportunity to acquire 'The Shop,' which enables us to give back to our community through donations and volunteering with local organizations we believe in. We look forward to continuing our involvement with Traverse City auto repair and community support in the future.
